Typography is language made visible. I studied about the history and current practice of type in all areas of communication design: from the simplest publication to the most advanced information graphics and screen-based interactive media. I have learned to see, understand, and manipulate the visual aspect of language as a powerful communicative tool. Now, I have an understanding of the properties of typefaces, their context and how typography helps readers read and navigate a text. I also investigated letterform structure and type classification systems, typographic terminology, history of type and printing, principles of spacing, use of typographic contrast in composition, legibility, hierarchy, and typographic form as a tool for expression and communication. I learned how to be critical users of type. I developed more sophisticated techniques for working with texts in multiple formats and contexts. By exploring and discussing historical and contemporary theory related to typography and design, I began to contextualize and apply critical thinking to my own work.

I also have a technical and practical skills set towards a fluency in setting and manipulating type within a contemporary digital environment. I understand and use fonts and typesetting software to create and analyze typographic prototypes for both print and screen.
